We believe that voting is the best way to create the change we want to see in our neighborhoods.

From environmental injustice to the lack of affordable housing to police brutality to gentrification, people of color have to deal social and economic generational disadvantages. Through get out the vote, voter registration, education, relational organizing, and protection programs, we aim to empower the communities in which we live and work. Find out how you can help.

Our Organization

Beats on the Streets mobilizes voters of color across the Black Belt to fight for racial and environmental justice, building power for a healthier and more equitable world. We believe democracy flourishes when communities of color have the tools, resources, and platforms to organize, advocate, and shape their own futures. Our values center care, solidarity, and the recognition that justice requires meeting people where they are—whether that's on their doorsteps or in digital spaces where they already gather.

Founded in 2022 in Pitt County, North Carolina, Beats on the Streets emerged from the urgent need for systemic change in a region where communities of color face persistent inequities. Our name reflects our grassroots approach: the "beats" represent our community's vibrant pulse and collective spirit, while "on the streets" signifies our commitment to organizing where people live, work, and gather. In our first major campaign, our team knocked on approximately 70,000 doors across Pitt County in just six weeks, complemented by outreach at community centers, places of worship, and local events. This intensive civic engagement and mobilization effort demonstrated both the hunger in our communities to have policies that represent us and the power of persistent, relationship-based organizing.
